Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is one of Nepal’s most iconic trekking adventures, offering an immersive journey into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. This 11-day itinerary is designed for trekkers who want a moderate pace with time to acclimatize and enjoy the scenic and cultural diversity of the region.

The trek takes you through charming Gurung and Magar villages, terraced farmlands, and lush rhododendron forests, eventually reaching the Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m) — a natural amphitheater surrounded by majestic peaks including Annapurna I, Machapuchare, Hiunchuli, and Gangapurna.

Itinerary

Travel by tourist bus or private vehicle from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Enjoy scenic views along the Trishuli and Marsyangdi Rivers. Overnight at a hotel in Lakeside Pokhara.

Drive to Nayapul (1.5 hrs), then start the trek along the Modi Khola river. Walk past villages and farmlands to Tikhedhunga. Gentle start to the journey. Overnight in teahouse.

Climb the famous stone steps of Ulleri, then continue through oak and rhododendron forests to Ghorepani, a major stop with views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. Overnight in teahouse.

Early morning hike to Poon Hill for a spectacular sunrise over the Himalayas. Return for breakfast and trek through forested trails to Tadapani. Overnight in teahouse.

Descend to Kimrong Khola, then ascend through villages and forests to reach Chhomrong — a gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary with great mountain views. Overnight in teahouse.

Descend steep steps to Chhomrong Khola and then climb through bamboo and rhododendron forests, passing Sinuwa and Bamboo before reaching Dovan. Overnight in teahouse.

Gradual ascent through lush forest and closer to the alpine zone. Pass Himalaya and Hinku Cave before arriving at Deurali. Overnight in teahouse.

Enter the Annapurna Sanctuary. Trek through a glacial valley to Machapuchare Base Camp, then continue to Annapurna Base Camp. Enjoy close-up views of Annapurna I and surrounding peaks. Overnight in teahouse at ABC.

Retrace your steps down from the alpine zone to the forests of Bamboo. A long but easier descent. Overnight in teahouse.

Trek down to Jhinu Danda, famous for its natural hot springs beside the river. Optional dip for relaxation. Overnight in teahouse.

Trek down to Siwai, where your vehicle will be waiting. Drive back to Pokhara and end your trek with a relaxing evening by Phewa Lake.
